Happy Monday Everyone!

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. I just wanted to share a few links with everyone that I found interesting. Stay tuned this week for posts on blogging ideas, setting up a new pso blog, seo and more! :)

The Honest Courtesan

This blog is from a former sex worker and explores the rights of sex workers along with media portrayals, anti-sex worker campaigns and more. Some very intense discussions are to be had but it is extremely informative and although phone sex isn’t touched on often, it’s a great blog to learn more about sex work in general.

Sexonomics

This blog is from Dr.Brooke Magnanti who wrote the Belle Du Jour books. Also a former sex worker, she delves into interesting debates about sex workers and provides great news links as well.

Tits and Sass

This is also a great blog about sex workers and written by 8 different women so there are lots of different view points!

These blogs are all great if you are interested in learning more about sex work and the fight not to marginalize sex workers. Also, check out my latest blog on http://diaryofasexwriter.com/

Brainstorming is a very effective tool when it comes to plotting the course of your pso blog. A lot of people ask me about blog time management and brainstorming is a perfect way to help ease your stress.

So what makes a good brainstorming session?

1. Write Everything Down

It’s vital that you write everything down that comes from your mind during a brainstorming session. Something that you may think is inconsquential may spark an idea for your next post! I use a flipchart but grab a scrap piece of paper or write it down in a notebook. And don’t throw it out once you have used up those ideas. Use it as a launching pad for your next brainstorming session!

2. Don’t Reject Ideas

It’s easy to think an idea won’t work, but write it down anyway. Often, I’ve rejected an idea and then taken a closer look at it a few hours later and realized that it would make a really good post!

3. Think Outside the Box

This is a cliche saying so forgive me, but what I mean is think outside your comfort zone. If you find yourself writing the same old boring thing for your blog posts, take a step back and see how you can make it new again. Take time to think about what the client REALLY wants and not what you think they want. Spice it up and make it fun!

4. Use a Partner

Having someone to bounce ideas off of is a great asset. Grab a fellow PSO or even a non-PSO to toss around ideas. One of my brainstorm buddies doesn’t even work in the business but he routinely comes up with great ideas for me. (It also helps that he’s a guy and can give a guy perspective).

5. Use Your Surroundings

Look around you for inspiration. Is there something in your home setting that could give you an idea? If not, go for a walk. Head to the coffee shop and see what you find there. Perhaps you are inspired to write a devious cat and mouse type post with a coffee shop setting? Or maybe it’s all about how your character masturbated in the back row of a movie theatre. Use your surroundings and you will come up with new ideas.

There’s some tips to get you started! Good luck with your pso blogs and your brainstorming!

Building A Successful Brand

Building your brand ensures you success and longevity in this business. But what does branding really mean?

It’s a word tossed around by marketers so much it’s lost its meaning. But what it really comes down to is your perceived identity. How are you viewed by your clients and the public? What sort of image do you put forward? This is branding.

So how does this relate to being a PSO?

As a phone sex operator, you get calls every day from clients looking for a wide variety of things. But the common denominator is you. Whether it’s your look, voice or superb pso skills, they are coming to you.

Developing a smart brand helps retain customers and earn you more money! So how should you start?

1. Assess Your Character

Your character IS your brand, so take a good, hard look at ‘her’ strengths and weaknesses. Does she naturally come off more submissive then dominant? Do you find the majority of your clients are fetish-oriented? A good character assessment will help you to determine what direction your branding should take.

2. Examine Your Options

There are so many marketing tools out there that it may overwhelm you. Start small. If you have email capacity, that’s where you want to start to develop your brand. Likewise your pso ads (if you have control over them).

From there, you can branch out and look at social media like blogging and Twitter, as well as content-based branding like assignments, audio recordings and more.

3. Develop a plan

A plan is very important for brand building. Even a sparse outline can lead you in the right direction. Write down the steps you want to take to market yourself and the time it will take. Don’t try to jump into everything at once otherwise you will get totally overwhelmed!

4. Start Branding!

Whether through email, blogging or special content, get yourself out there! Just remember, successful branding is not about quantity, but quality. One well written blog post is worth more than ten horrible ones.

Good luck!

I am in the middle of creating a blogging strategy for this blog. Why do I need one? Well, it’s important when planning out your blog to create a list of possible topics that you are going to blog about. Rather than posting them as you think of them, it’s wise to create a blogging strategy.
Here are my steps for creating a good blog strategy:
1. Assess your audience.
Think about who you want to read your blog. If it’s your current clients, what would they want from a blog? What makes a good blog and why should they read it? What would prospective clients want versus your regular clients? Brainstorm ideas to make it interesting and new.
2. Create a list of topics.
What do you want to talk about? Write down the top ten categories you want to discuss on your blog.
3. Create a list of blog posts.
Take each one of the topics and brainstorm as many blog post ideas as possible. You don’t have to come up with the whole post, but rather just the titles. This will give you a jumping off point to write your posts.
4. Determine what should be posted at what times.
Examine your topics and look at ones that closely tie together. Rather than writing about one topic until you’ve exhausted it, tackle several topics at once. If you only have a few topics, rotate them so that blog readers get a bit of everything.
5. Make your strategy flexible.
You don’t want to have too rigid a schedule that you can’t post some news when it comes along or an interesting article you find. Just use it as a guideline as to what should be posted.
A strategy will definitely take the stress away from blog posting and free up time for more phone calls!

Analytics are something that every website/blog should have. I have tried several, but have come back to the best, which is Google Analytics. (Bonus: It’s also free). But once glance at all the pie charts, squiggly lines and numbers can turn you away. So here’s a break down of ten best features of Google Analytics.

1.Dashboard
The dashboard is great because it gives you an overview of the analytics for your site. If you are unsure about analytics, this front page can give you a sampling of all the information you need from the top content, to the number of visits.

2. Visitors: New versus Returning
Under the visitors tab on the left hand side, there is a list of different information relating to the vistors from your site. New versus returning is great because it lets you know how many people are actually returning to your site. If you have a lot of one time hits, but not alot of returns, it’s time to think up ways to get people to return.

3. Visitors: Loyalty
Visitor loyalty expands on this by showing off how many times a user has visited your site and the length of their visit.

4. Visitors: Browser Capabilities
This is a great tool. With so many people using a variety of browsers, it is important that your site is compatible to all.

5. Traffic Sources: Direct Traffic
Direct Traffic means those who came directly to your site, by typing in the name of your website in their browser. This is a great way to gauge how many people know about you.

6. Traffic Sources: Referring Sites
This is important to know as well. If you are posting links to your site on Twitter, Facebook, other blogs, etc, seeing the results of that work will help determine whether you use those tools in the future.

7. Traffic Sources: Search Engines
This is a great way to determine your brand awareness. How many people are searching for your name? Are they getting to your site via other keywords that you hadn’t thought of?

8. Traffic Sources: Keywords
This lets you discover what keywords people are using to search for you. You may find ones you expected, but I guarantee you will find some unusual ones as well.

9. Content: Top Content
The top content section lets you know what is most popular. This is great for blogs because it basically gives you audience feedback regarding what they liked and what they didn’t.

10. Content: Site Overlay
Site overlay is a neat tool that shows what areas people have been clicking on your website. This is a useful tool to determine what is most popular.

There you have it. Although it may seem confusing, analytics are a great way to really assess what is working and what isn’t on your website.

Okay be honest. Does blogging make you do this?

Don’t worry! You aren’t alone, I swear. Blogging can be a really hard thing to manage when you are a busy PSO. Let’s say you have to write in your blog twice a week. You have to think up something to write, add keywords and links, format it for your blog, add pictures and upload! Phewf! Add in the fact that a PSO blog is infinitely harder because of the addition of sexual content and you have a struggle in the making.

I hope this blog will help you with yours! I will be offering tips and tricks as well as sharing my trials and tribulations with blogging. (Even professional writers can get tired of blogging!)

I will also be doing case studies of blogs so if you would like some free advice, send me an email to waywardmuses@gmail.com and I will dissect your blog and make it even better!

Today’s Tip: Write your blog after a particularly satisfying phone sex call. You will still be in character and the words will flow more freely!
